ヤイヅが朗らかに笑った。
「その籠は清水寺で作られた改心するまで取れない籠なのだ」
「そ、そんな都合のいい・・」タロウは絶句した。
「さあ、マサコさん帰ろう」
しかしマサコは動かなかった。
「タロウさん、改心してください。改心して籠を取って、そして、そして・・」
タロウとマサコは籠越しに見詰め合った。
「俺、改心するよ」
「タロウさん、いえ、若様・・！」
二人が抱き合うと、マサムネとヤイヅの目が点になった。
「なんでこうなってんだ？　そして最終回は近そうだ」マサムネは呟いた。

ボンドウは漁船に乗って行ってしまった。
タロウは漁船が見えなくなるまで手を振っていた。

「さてと」
「ねえ、もうやめましょうよ」
「組は壊滅し叔父貴のボンドウまでがいなくなり、明日からどうしたもんかな」
タロウはタバコに火をつけて、煙たそうに吸った。
「なんか、ど演歌でも聴きたいな。ロックやポップスじゃなく演歌を」
「こんな時にあなたを慰める和歌でも詠えたらいいんですけど」
「いや、もう和歌はいい」
「そうですね」

霧にむせぶシズオカ埠頭。
薄暗い街頭の灯りが、少し離れて立つ二人を照らしていた。

そこへ抜き足差し足で近づく影があった・・・。

「来たな！　探偵」
タロウはふところから拳銃を取り出して、車に向けた。
「やめてください！」
「うるさい！　離せ！」
タロウはマサコを突き飛ばした。
「俺はゴクドウ組の御曹司・・、結局マサコさんとは違う人生なんだ」
車がブレーキをかけた。ドアが開いて誰かが降りてきた。
「ぼっちゃん」
「ボ、ボンドウじゃないか！？」
「ゴクドウ組が壊滅したそうじゃないですか」
タロウはうつむいた。「だって、まさかカイドウ邸にカチコミに行ったら気合組のやつらが護ってるなんて・・、お、お前どこに行ってたんだよ」
「ぼっちゃん、あたしはこの国から消えますぜ」
フェリーが近づいてきた。
「ボンドウ、まさか密航か？」ボンドウはそれは色々な罪状で指名手配中なのだった。
「みっちゃん・・、いや、スケに逃げられました。いやなもんです。もう未練はありやせん」
「ボ、ボンドウ・・」

シズオカ埠頭に車が１台止まっている。
遠くで汽船の霧笛が聞こえる。
ぼー、ぼー

「若様、いえタロウ様、おやめください」
「うるさい。あんたのために和歌を始めたんだ。あんたのためにネコを殺したんだ。あんたのためならネコを可愛がるクソオヤジも邪魔をするマサムネも殺してやる」
「タロウ様、私なんかのために、そんなことはしないでください」
「あんたが、いやマサコさんが好きだからだよ」
「それでも私のようなつまらない女のために無茶はしないでください」
「うるさい。あんたのためなら地獄へでも行く」
「今ならネコ殺しだけですけど、人を殺めたら刑務所ですよ」
「あんたがそれで幸せになれるなら、それでもいいんだ」
「幸せ？お父様を亡き者にされて幸せな娘がどこにいますか」
「う・・・」
「タロウ様のためならネコも好きになります。だから・・・」
「俺は好きになれんのか？」
「え？」

車が１台近づいてきた。

「はい、マサムネ探偵事務所」
マサムネが電話に出ると、向こう側から「ぽぴーぽぴー」と笑い声が聞こえてきた。
「なんだ、お前は！」
「ポピー！　お前が私立探偵だな。虫め」
「いきなり虫とは何だ。誰だお前は」
「俺の名前は、タロウ・ゴクドウ」
マサムネは押し黙った。「なるほど？　何の用件かな？　ネコ探しの依頼かね？」
タロウはポピーと叫んだ。
「減らず口をたたくんじゃあねえ！　これを聞け！」
「マサムネさん！　た、助けて」
「マサコさんっ！？」
「この人が、ネコを・・、うう、やめて！」
「ネコが嫌いなんだろう？　ホラ、虐殺！」
「よすんだ！」マサムネは叫んだ。
「うるさい！　お前一人でシズオカ埠頭に来い！　１時間以内だ。さもなくばマサコを殺す！」

「すぐにでも極道組がやってくるでしょう、ひとまず避難しましょう」
マサムネはノブテルの尻尾を見ながら言った。
「え？極道組がなんで」
「後で話します」
マサムネはカイドウとヤイズと気合組の若いのを乗せて出発した。
もちろんノブテルはカイドウの腕の中だ。

「マサムネ、どこへ行く？」
「事務所なら気合組も下にいるし」
「そうだな」

途中で１０台近いベンツとすれ違った。
「奴らも行動が早いな」
「うむ」

マサムネたちは事務所に戻った。
若いのは下の気合組の事務所へ行った。
「長い１日だな。まだ終わらないのか？」マサムネはあくびをした。
するとテルノブもあくびをした。

「何がどうなっているんでしょうか」
カイドウが問いかける。
「連続ネコ殺事件の犯人はタロウだったのさ」

電話が鳴った・・・。

「こんなときに居ないボンドウなんて必要ない！　全員集めろ！　カチコミじゃい」
子分たちが蒼ざめた。
「お、親分。ゴロマキのボンドウさん無しでなんてムリっす」
「極道組の戦闘力の９５％はボンドウさんで持ってるようなもんですし・・」
「やかましいわ！　全員出撃じゃ！　タロウのためじゃ！」
ミッドナイトを漆塗りのベンツが次々とカイドウ邸に向かって走り出した。

マサムネたちは笛の音の方を見た。暗くて顔は見えないが、ヤイヅが籠にデブネコを入れているようだ。
「おお！　ノブテル！」
マサムネが叫ぶと、カイドウ邸から大声がした。
「な、なぬ！　ノブテルって聞こえたぞ！」
カイドウが飛び出してきた。「おおお、ノブテルや！　会いたかったぞ！」
カイドウはネコを抱きしめた。「もう離さないっ！」

タロウは鼻歌まじりでニッサンを運転（ころが）していた。

ところがワラブキハウスに戻ると・・・。
「なんじゃこりゃー」
玄関先でうめいているチンピラの尻を蹴飛ばして聞いた。
「なんがあったん？」
「ネ・・・ネコが・・・」
「ネコがどうした」
「ガク」チンピラは再び気絶した。

「ちっ、使えない。パパに応援を頼もう」
タロウはパパとのホットラインに電話した。
ぽぴーぽぴー
「なんじゃい」ドスが効いて誰でも震え上がるような声である。
「あ、パパ、僕だよ」
「おお、タロウかい」一転して猫なで声。
「あのねえ・・・」
タロウはマサコの父の非道なことを話した。
「わかった、タロウは家にいなさい。そんな野郎は子分どもに任せよう」
「うん、お願いね、パパ」

極道組の組長は葉巻に火をつけると、湯飲みを壁にぶつけた。
「へい、お呼びですか」若いのが来た。
「ボンドウを呼べ」
「ボンドウの兄貴とは連絡がとれませんが」
「なにー」
「あ、あの、探してはいるんですが・・・」
組長の怒りが爆発した。

ヤイヅはひょいっと顔から籠をはずした。誰もみたことがない素顔だが・・暗くて判別できなかった。
そして籠にネコを入れた。
「ふむ、これで楽だ」

一方そのころ。マサムネはカイドウ邸からタロウの謎の手紙を抜き取った。
「こ、これは！」

　虐殺や　ああ虐殺や　虐殺や
　　　　ネコのたたりで　あなたは散るらむ

「ネコのたたりって、こいつだろ、ネコ殺したのは」
絶句しつつも、ようやく犯人確定、そして次のタロウのターゲットが判明したのだ。
「カイドウ氏が危ない。ここで反撃の準備だ！」
「マサムネさん、気合組も力を貸しやすぜ。これは街を二分する精力の闘いでもあるんだ」
そこに笛の音。ヤイヅの帰還だ。

ヤイヅはワラブキハウスにそっと近づいて中の様子を探った。
するとドタドタ走り回る音や物をぶつける音、「ギャー」という悲鳴も聞こえてきた。
不思議に思って入るのをためらっていると静かになった。

ヤイヅは思い切って入ることにした。
玄関をそうーっと開けて入る。
誰もでてこない。
土足のまま正面のフスマを開けると、何人かの男が倒れてうめいている。
驚いて見回すと肥えたネコが撒き散らかされた刺身らしきものをガシガシ食べている。
ジロッとヤイヅをにらんだ。
ヤイヅは手近な男に「どうしたんだ」と聞くと、
「ぼっちゃまに言われてネコに刺身をやろうと檻の扉を開けたら、ネコがいきなり飛びかかってきて・・・」
「ふーむ、窮鼠猫を噛むじゃなくて、窮ネコ人を引っかくか。よほど腹を空かしていたらしいな」
ヤイヅがしばらくネコを見ていたら、ネコは満足したのか大あくびをして丸くなった。
「寝ちゃったよ、さて・・・」
ヤイヅはあたりを見回して縄を見つけるとネコをぐるぐる巻きにしてかついで外へでた。
「仕方ない。歩いてマサムネのとこへ戻るか。しかし重いなあ」

「む、タロウが出てきたぞ」
ワラブキハウス前で張り込みをしていたマサムネ、ヤイヅ、若いのは緊張した。タロウはニッサンに乗った。
ヤイヅは「ノブテルがまだ生きてるかも知れん」と、こっそりとタロウの家に侵入した。
マサムネと若いのは、ホンダに乗ってこっそりとニッサンの後をつけた。
するとセレブ御用達のマンション前にやってきた。
「マサムネさん、タロウのやつ双眼鏡で何か見てますよ」
二人がタロウの目の先を見ると、１０階あたりに下着を干すマサコの姿があった。
「おおっ」二人は興奮した。マサコの姿が消えるとタロウは移動した。
「今度はカイドウ・ソン氏の豪邸だ」
「おっ、タロウが何か書いた紙をポストに入れたぞ」

その頃、マサコは瀟洒なセレブ御用達のマンションに戻った。
心を落ちつかせるためにお茶をたて、少し和歌を詠んでみた。

「忍ぶれど　色にでにけり　わが恋は　それにつけても　ネコの怖さよ」
「七重八重　花は咲けども　いたずらに　それにつけても　ネコの怖さよ」

「ああ、もうダメ。和歌が浮かばない。そうだわ、若様に電話してみましょう」

若様「ポピーポピー、なんですか誰ですかそうですか」
マサコ「あの、マサコですが」
若様「ああ、野菊のようなマサコさん」
マサコ「若様、和歌がでないんです」
若様「便秘ですか」
マサコ「まあ、お下劣なことを仰ってはいけませんわ」
若様「失礼いたしました。つい思ってもいないことを口ばしって」
マサコ「どうしたらいいのでしょうか」
若様「便秘がですか？」
マサコ「いやいや、そんなこと言ってはいや」
若様「重ね重ね申し訳ありません。そんな時は好きなものを思い浮かべるのですよ」
マサコ「好きなもの・・・春の野辺に咲くたおやかな花、夏の噴水で遊ぶ子供たち、秋の七草、猪鹿蝶・・・」
若様「そうです。そして嫌いなものを忘れてしまうのです」
マサコ「ネコを・・・・きゃー、思い出してしまいましたわ」
若様「じゃ、そゆことで」

マサコも電話を切った。
少し心が軽くなったような気がした。

ボンドウは合掌をして去っていった。
「ふぅむ、殺戮とか虐殺とかを口にしていたとな」とマサムネ。
「おいおい、忘れておらんか？　お前の探偵事務所に極道組の連中が脅しに来たことを」
「そんな偶然なんてないだろうな」
「ということは、２足す２は、・・だ。ジョージ・オーウェルの小説じゃあるまいし、その答えが書かれてないなんてことは無いだろう」
マサムネとヤイヅは立ち上がった。
「若いの」
「あ、はい」気合組の若いのは言った。
「さっそくタロウに会いたい」
「タロウはクサツという村にワラブキ・ハウスを構えているようです。難攻不落だとか」
「うーむ・・」

「あ、てめえはボンドウ」
気合組の若いのが極道組の若頭を捕まえて戻ってきた。
「こいつがさっき話したタロウのお目付け役の若頭ボンドウですよ」
若頭はしょんぼりしている。
「我々を見張っていたのに違いない。どうなんだ？」
若頭はボソボソ喋りだした。
「確かにぼっちゃまの命令で見張りはしてましたが、いいかげんぼっちゃまに振り回されるのにウンザリしてきました」
「ふむ」
「この際組を抜けてみっちゃんと田舎で暮らそうかと」
「みっちゃん？」
「はい、いい子なんですよ」
「惚れたおなごか」
「はい、これからみっちゃんと夜汽車に乗って田舎へ帰ります」
「極道組やタロウが黙っちゃいないぜ」
「はい、隠れて暮らします。見つかったら覚悟はできています」
ボンドウの顔は晴れ晴れとしてきたようだ。
「で、さっきぼっちゃまと電話したときに、「殺戮」とか「虐殺」ということを言ってましたので、ぼっちゃまがまた何かたくらんでいるのではないかと」
「虐殺？」
「はい」
ボンドウは出て行った。
残された３人は思わず顔を見合わせた。

煮込み卵や、ハンペンを食べながら３人は談笑した。
「極道組の組長の息子は、たしかタロウ・ゴクドウって言うんですがね、悪質なやつでして」
「ほう、しかし俺たちの事件とは何の関係も無いからなあ」
「これ、タロウの写真です」
「げ、なんで男の写真なんか持ってるんだ」
マサムネはハンペンを吹いた。
「か、勘違いしないでください。気合組が警戒する危険人物ですから」
「ヤクザが警戒するって、どんなやつなんだ」ヤイヅが聞いた。
「別に拳銃を持って暴れたりゃしません。ただプツーンと切れるタイプでして、しかも組長がネコかわいがりしてる。ボンボンが気に入らないやつがいたら、組をあげて総攻撃ってことに・・」
「そりゃ、かなわんのう」
そこにそっと、若頭が店を覗き込んだ。

若い男がマサムネとヤイヅのテーブルにやってきた。
「気合組の者です。親分の命令であなたたちをガードしてます」
「なんと、義理堅い親分ですね」
「そこに惚れて組員になりました」
「なるほど。で？」
「ええ、少し離れたところに極道組のベンツが停まってますから、おそらくあいつらもあなた方を見張っているようですよ」
「ネコを探しているだけなんだがなあ」
「そういえば、極道組のボスの息子は血も涙もない冷血漢だという噂ですよ。あいつに目をつけられたらお仕舞だと」
「うーむ」

怪しい男は携帯電話ですばやく連絡を取った。
「ぼっちゃま、探偵と虚無僧が居酒屋に入りやしたぜ」
「殺戮のー　名こそ流れて・・」
「ぼっちゃま？」
「ぽぴー！　なんだよもう誰！」
「え、えーと、私です、若頭のボンドウです」
「和歌かしら、って、そうだよ、和歌だよ。虐殺の和歌だ」
「え、虐殺を若？　私が虐殺？　いえ、私はコロシはちょっと・・。もうとっくに塀の中でオツトメはしやしたんでハクも付いてるし」
「何をごちゃごちゃ言ってんの！？　切るよ！」
ボンドウは半泣きでベンツの中で携帯電話を握り締めた。「くっそー、組長の息子があんなだもんな！」

「ヤイヅの、冷えてきたなあ」マサムネは両手を擦り合わせて言った。
「まったくだ、今夜は引き上げるとするか」
「熱燗に湯豆腐・・・はハードボイルドな俺たちには似合わんな」
「やはり、ギムレットかな。飲んだことないけど」
「見たこともないけどな」
「なんでもいいから、あったまろうぜ」
二人は目に付いた小料理屋に入っていった。

それを見届けた男。
ケイタイでどこかへ連絡をしている。

ぽぴー！
ぽぴぽぴぽぴー！！
ボクちゃんのマサコちゃんに、ついに変なムシが付いちゃった！
私立探偵に虚無僧だとぉ？　ゆるさんぞう。ボクちゃんだってあんなにおしゃべりしたことないのに！
マサコちゃんがネコ嫌いだと知って一生懸命ネコを殺してるのに、それを和歌で伝えてるのに！
振り向いてくれないなんて、ぽぴー！
しかもカイドウめがネコを飼うなんて、マサコちゃんがかわいそうだからついでにこのデブネコも殺して・・いや、まてよ？
こんなデブネコ殺すのは簡単だもん。それより、カイドウだ。マサコちゃんが嫌いなネコを飼う鬼！
ヤツを・・バラしてやるか。よし、虐殺の和歌を書くぞ。

その前に。

自宅へ帰ったカイドウ・ソンは深いため息をついた。
ノブテルは元気にしてるだろうか。
あの探偵は大丈夫だろうか。

悶々としていると、ふとマサコが気になった。
あいつはネコ嫌いだからとノブテルに近づきもしなかったが、
もしかしてノブテルとひと悶着おこしてしまったとか。
でもマサコはあちこち飛び回っていて、ここ数年ここへは顔も見せたことがないからな。

カイドウは再び深いため息をついた。

（では、真犯人の独白を聞こうじゃないか）

ヤイヅは籠の中から不機嫌な声を出した。
「マサコってのはな、月刊和歌やマンガ・マガジンの表紙を飾ったり、年末のテレビの赤白和歌戦争の審査員を務めたりする有名人なんだ。ファンクラブの会員番号はすでに６ケタに達しているらしい」
「知らなかった」
「まあ、セケンに疎いお前ではしかたない。美女に免疫がないから日本トップの芸能人の魅力に参ってしまうのもな」
「なぜお前は平気なのだ」
「修行の成果だ。おなごを見てもそうそう興奮はしない」
ヤイヅはふんぞりかえった。もちろんそんなことをしているうちに怪しい男は消えていた。

一方その頃。真犯人（シルエット）はアジトに帰ったところだ。さて、真犯人の独白を聞いてみよう・・。

マサムネは突然歌いだした。
「ニシン来たかと　カモメに問えば　わたしゃ立つ鳥　波に聞け・・・」
「は？」
「ヤイズの、わからんのか。エンカだよエンカ。和歌を理解するにはエンカも知らなきゃダメなんだよ」
「はあ」
「和歌もストーカーもマサコも極道組も気合組もイントロに過ぎないのさ」
「はあ」
「これは深い、深いぞ。俺やお前じゃ太刀打ちできないほど、この事件は深いぞ」
「シズオカの、お前頭をどうかしちゃったんじゃないのか？」
「俺はマサコを守る。お前はあいつを追え。俺は、俺はマサコのためなら○ねる」
「あー、これがかの有名なマサコ症候群ってやつか、シズオカのも罹っちまったか」
ヤイヅはマサムネの目のすぐ前で手をパチンと叩いた。
「はっ」
「シズオカの、気がついたかい」
「俺は何をしていたんだ？」
「まあ、いいってことよ」

木の葉が舞い上がった。
そして道路の向こう側には肥ったネコを抱いた男がいた。
そいつはサンド・アンブレラを深く被っていて、顔が見えない。男は大きな声で言った。
「一陣の　風吹き荒れし　この街に　真実はいずこ　どこにあるやら」
なんと上手い歌だろうか。
マサムネとヤイヅが感動している間に男はクルリときびすを返し去っていった。
「追うぞ！」
しかし赤信号に妨げられて道路の向こうに行けない。
「ヤイヅよ、やはりネコは赤いニシンだ」
「な、なんだ赤い二審って。カープファンの内野の審判か？」

二人はシズオカの商店街をブラブラと歩いた。
もちろん四方に気を配っているので、尾行がいることには気がついている。
二人は路地へ曲がった。
尾行者があわてて路地へ行くと、二人が待ち構えていた。
「なにか用かい？」とヤイヅ。
「いえ、トイレを探していたんですが」
「組へ帰って、尾行は失敗したと言うんだな」
「・・・」
「でもなあ」とマサムネが言う。
「せっかく尾行してたんだから、証拠を持って帰らないとまずいんじゃないか？」
「と言いますと？」と尾行者。
「そうだなあ、このバリカンでお前のリーゼント頭を少し刈らせてもらうか」
尾行者の顔が蒼ざめる。
「そ、それだけは」
「お前も手ぶらじゃ帰れないだろ」
マサムネは尾行者の頭をとら刈りにして路地からたたき出した。
「わしらも舐められたもんよの」とヤイヅ。
と、そこへ一陣の風が吹き、太ったネコを抱いた男が現れた。

親分はどっかりとソファーに正座して、昔話をはじめた。
「戦後、闇市、マッカーサー・・。そのころ新宿は焼け野原で」
省略。
「つまり、極道組とワシらの気合組は元はといえば同じ組。いつの間にか２つの家にわかれてしまった」
極道組は金にさえなればカタギにも平気で手を出す悪者集団だそうだ。
「ネコと、ストーカーと、和歌。そして極道組、いったいどう繋がっているんだ」
ヤイヅが混乱して笛を吹いた。
「笛はよせ、それよりも動こう。ネコを探せば状況が変わるはずだ」
二人は街に繰り出した。
近くの電信柱の影に新聞を読むフリをして事務所を見張っていた男が、そっとマサムネたちの後をつけはじめた。

「ふーむ」とヤイヅ。
「ネコ殺しは目くらましで、本命はマサコさんかも」
マサコの顔が恐怖でおののく。
これがまた可愛いとマサムネは思った。
「お父上はこれをご存知ですか」
「いえ、知らないと思います。なにしろ父はネコを文字通り猫可愛がりしてますから」
「あのノブテルをですか」
「ええ」
マサムネはノブテルの写真をもう一度見た。
「このネコがねえ・・・」

そこへヤクザの親分が現れた。
「そう言えば、さっき極道組の若い衆がこちらへ来たようだが、知り合いかい？」
「いえいえとんでもない。ネコを探すなといって脅されましたよ」
「ほほー」

「て、てやんでぃ！　ヤクザ事務所が火事でい」
１階のヤクザの事務所から大声が聞こえてきた。
マサムネたちや、３階のゲイシャ、４階のガッショウ銀行の職員たちがバケツに水を汲んで火を消し止めた。
「すまねえ、カタギのみなさん」ヤクザの親分は見栄を切った。
「困ったときはきっと助けにいきやすぜ」
なんだかんだでヤクザとコネが出来たようだ。
「しかし放火だぞ、これは」ヤイヅが言った。裏口に燃焼促進剤と見られる、灯油の容器が捨てられ、火の気の無いところが激しくこげていた。
「まさか、和歌にちなんで俺たちを？」マサムネが言った。
「そ、そうなのです」とマサコ。「謎の和歌ストーカーに困っているのです」そう言って怪しい和歌を取り出した。
「目に青葉　背いて故郷　マサコさん　からくれないに　水くくるとは」
明らかに殺害予告である。

「それよりも、あのネコを何とかしてください」
マサコの視線の先には、さっきのネコがいた。
「あら、まだいたのね」
「おい、シズオカの、あのネコの首輪に紙が結わえてあるぞ」
「あ、気付かなかったな」
マサムネは紙を取り、ネコを追い出してから広げてみた。
「なになに、燃え盛る山の緑にいざなわれ　愛しき人よ今日はいずこへ」
「和歌のようですね」とマサコ。
「まさか、次の殺ネコ予告ではあるまいな」とヤイヅ。
「ふーむ」
三人は顔を見合わせた。
「何か焦げ臭いような」
マサコがキョロキョロして言う。

ヤイヅが飛び上がった。
「ひぃー」
マサムネも座布団を頭にかぶって「ナムアミダブツ」と怯えだした。
「オ、オカルトにはさすがの名探偵も手が出せない」
「悪霊退散悪霊退散」
「ヤイヅ、お前は僧なのだから霊はまかせたぞ」
「ぬかせ。俺はまだ修行中の身で・・」
ドアがそっと開いた。
「きゃー」マサムネとヤイヅは抱きあった。
マサコがそれを見て固まった。「・・お邪魔したかしら」
「は、いや、オカマいなく」
「そ、それより、和歌の世界に名だたるお嬢さんが殺ネコ事件に関わるあらましを聞きましょう」

「静岡に緑の黒髪梳く(すく)夜は　背(せな)で泣いてる愛しき稚児よ」
「訳分からん和歌だな」
「まったくだ」
「で、殺ネコの状況は？」
「長い黒髪を束ねたやつでネコの首を・・・」
「・・・」

そのとき、古時計がボーンボーンと鳴り出し、生暖かい風が緩やかに吹いてきた。
「シ、シズオカの、これに関わっちゃダメじゃないかな」
「うん、ヤイズの、俺もそう思う。今日は店じまいしよかな」

かすかにドアをノックするような音が・・・。

ヤイヅが笛を吹いた。
「マサムネ、ネコが怖いくせにネコを探してくれってどういう依頼人なんだ」
「わからんなあ」
マサムネはぐったりしたマサコを３階にゲイシャザシキに運んだところだった。ゲイシャのホシコと顔なじみで、こういうトラブル解決には役に立つ。
「しかし連続ネコ殺しが和歌にちなんでいるだって？」
笛の音が止まった。
「うむ。焼津で散るらむ、とかそんな歌だ。古今和歌集から抹消された呪いの歌だとか。それにちなんで６つの殺ネコがあった」
「最後の呪いの歌は？」
ヤイヅが歌が書かれたメモを取り出した。そして詠んだ。
「シズオカに・・」

そこへ、のっそりとネコが入ってきた。
どこにでもいるような、黒白のトラネコといわれる日本ネコだ。
「今日は千客万来でネコまで来たよ」
マサムネは笑った。
ヤイヅ（ヤイヅ在住、本名不詳）も笑った。
マサコは蒼い顔をしている。
「ん？このネコがどうかしましたか？」
マサムネが訊く。
「早くネコを追い出して！」
「はあ？」
「早く追い出してちょうだい！」
「はあ」
マサムネがネコを捕まえようとするが、ネコはマサムネの腕をかいくぐってマサコの足元でスリスリする。
「ネ・・・ネコが・・・・」
マサコは気を失った。

しかしマサコのほうが驚きが大きかったと見えて、目を１円コインのように丸くしていた。
無理もなかろう。突然身の丈６フィートもある虚無僧が飛び込んできたのだから。
「あー、紹介しよう、マサコさん。こちらはヤイヅ、みての通り禅に詳しい男だ」
するとヤイヅがマサコを指差していった。
「この人は全日本ナンバーワン和歌読みのマサコ・ソンじゃないか」
なんとね。
和歌というのは、古今ジャパニーズソングアンソロジーなどに古くから編纂されている歌だ。
かつてバショウやイッキュウなどのハイクラスニンジャが歌っていた。未だに伝えられているのだから清らかな歌声だったに違いない。
ヤイヅがこちらを向いて（籠で顔が見えないが）言った。
「さすがマサムネ。連続殺ネコ事件が血塗られし伝説の和歌になぞられているとつかんだか」

「それで？」
マサムネはさりげなさを装って聞いた。
「父の探しているネコが見つかったら、真っ先に私に知らせて欲しいんです」
「今日はやけにネコが人気らしい」
「事情は聞かないんですか？」
「いや、私は依頼人は一人と決めていましてね。あなたの父親が依頼人ですから」
マサコは少しためらっていたが、マサムネに近づいた。
「おっと、それ以上近寄ると、骨抜きにされそうだ」
マサムネは手が震えなければいいなと思いながらタバコに火をつける。
そこへヤイヅが入ってきた。
「あ、あなたは？」
ヤイヅはマサコを見て驚いたように言った。

まったく来訪者の多い日だ。
マサムネが新たな客を見ると、椅子から落ちそうになった。
それは絶世の美女であった。
シルクのようにやわらかに流れ落ちる黒髪。物憂げで深みのある瞳、細く高い鼻梁。高い頬骨。
身長は５フィート４インチといったところだろう。スタイルも完璧で、いつでもナンバーワンのゲイシャになれるはずだ。
マサムネは動悸を抑えながら聞いた。「依頼人ですか」
「私はマサコ・ソン。カイドウ・ソンの娘です」
なんとね。

呼び出し音が８回鳴って、切ろうかと思ったところで相手がでた。
「ヤイヅの、相変わらず電話にでるのが遅いのう」
「シズオカのか。何の用だ」
「ちょっと時間がとれないかな」
「隣りの若奥さんが飼っているネコが行方不明になってな」
ネコ？今日はネコの日か？
「ヤイヅのはネコは好きか？」
「いや、食ったことはない」
「俺もネコ探しを頼まれてな」
「シズオカのはネコは好きか？」

「少しあとに寄らしてもらうわ」
「おお、頼む」
マサムネは受話器をおろすと、渋い声で言った。
「誰だか知らんが、ドアは開いているぜ」

マサムネはどうしたものかと思案しながら、タバコを巻いた。
するとドアが開けられた。
「忘れ物かい？」
ふりむくと、見知らぬ男の２人組だった。人相が悪い。スジモノだろうか。
「あんたがマサムネか」
「そうだと言ったら？」
「ネコの件から手を引いてもらおう」
さっそく来たか。これだからハードな街なんだ。マサムネはため息をついてすばやくルガーを抜いて２人組に向けた。
「いいか、伝えたぜ」
２人はあわをくって退散した。だが怪しい雲行きになってきた。どうやらあの相棒の力が必要らしい。
マサムネは電話をかけた。

「いやいや、これは必要経費としてお使いください」
カイドウは１００円札の束を再び押しやった。
「で、これが１週間前のノブテルの写真ですが」
丸々と肥えたネコの写真を取り出した。
「栄養が行き届いてますね」
マサムネはうんざりしつつも感想をもらした。
「いやあ、これでもかなり痩せたんですが」
「そうですか。少し時間をいただいて探してみましょう」
「どれくらいで見つかりそうですか？」
「ネコ探しは経験がありませんが、人なら１週間以内には見つけてます」
カイドウは天井を見上げて考えているようだったが、
「分かりました。それではよろしくお願いします」
と言って、事務所を去った。

マサムネは札束には目もくれない演技をしながらネコの写真を手に取った。
ガクランを着て、頭には日の丸のハチマキ。「なめんなよ」とふきだしに書かれている。
「なるほど、こういう格好のネコなら探しやすい」
カイドウは慌てた。「ノンノ・ノンノ。それはモデル時代のノブテルでして」
ネコはノブテルというらしい。しかしネコがモデルだと？
マサムネは写真をムシャムシャ食べて札束の上でブレイクダンスを踊りたい衝動にかられた。
「わかりました。しかし金はこんなに要らない。一日１００円プラス諸経費だ」
三ヶ月も家賃を払ってない探偵が言えたことではないと思いつつマサムネは１００円札の束を押しやった。

冴えない中年のおっさんがきょろきょろしながら入ってきた。
探偵事務所が珍しいのだろう。
マサムネは立ち上がって依頼人を迎え、擦り切れたソファに座らせた。
「ご用件はなんでしょうか」
依頼人は少し迷っていたようだが、話し出した。
「わしはハママツに住む、カイドウ・ソンという者じゃが、実は・・・ネコを探してもらいたい」
「ネコですか？」
「そうじゃ。ここは凄腕の探偵事務所と聞いてきたのだが」
「ネコ探しはやったことがありませんが」
「それも聞いておるが、なんとか頼みたい」
男はアタッシェケースを開けると、札束を２つとネコの写真をとりだした。

マサムネ・シマウミは拳銃の掃除を欠かさない。ここは生き馬の目を射抜く街、シズオカ。
ハードな街だ。
マサムネの探偵事務所は木造建築の２階にある。１階はヤクザの事務所だ。３階はゲイシャのザシキで、４階は銀行だ。
賑やかなもんだ。シズオカは眠らない。
ノックの音がした。マサムネはすばやく拳銃を桐タンスに仕舞った。
「開いてるぜ」

私は3/11はネトゲしてました。

私はもちろん被災者に攻撃してませんよ。
読書は人の迷惑にはならないので、自粛する必要はないと思います。

ハナコがＵＦＯの窓から叫んだ。実はウチューシリーズ第７戦で肘の靭帯を損傷してしまい、引退を余儀なくされたのだが、過去を改編してるうちに肘が治ってしまったのだった。
「お、俺のことも忘れるなよ」
ベクターもＵＦＯに乗っている。剣技が認められ、代打の切り札としてスカウトされたのだ。
「フォッフォッフォ。わしが慈悲深くてよかったな、コード・ウェイナー」ボスが言った「おい地球人たち、パワーウィンドーを閉めないと宇宙に出れんぞ」
ＵＦＯは去って行った。
「やっぱり野球とハナコが地球を救ったのかぁ」
ヒズシは感慨深げに呟いた。
「さて、帰るか」
「あいやしばらく」
ナゴシマ将軍が見栄をきりながらカブキ・ポーズを決めた。
「見事アッパレであった。わしと宮城城でサケを飲み交わそうぞ」
「えーと、じゃ、そうします」
ヒズシは籠で城に向かった。しばらく痛飲してから平和な現代に戻ったそうな。
めでたし、めでたし。

そんなご都合主義をメタ世界から苦々しげに見つめる活字防衛隊の姿があったが、それはそれ。いつか語られるかもしれない。

『逆まわるの世界』・・・完

「げげ、あいつまだ生きていたのか」
一堂が振り向くと、ハンディカラオケを持ったコード・ウェイナーが立っていた。
音量を絞っているせいか、気絶する者はいない。

「ほっほっほ。愛をもてあそぶ者は愛に滅ぼされ、時間をもてあそぶ者は時間に滅ぼされるのさ」
コード・ウェイナーはハナコを指指して言う。
「愛は、愛とはなんでしょう」
ベクターが叫ぶ。
「愛はさだめ、さだめは死」
「愛・・・死・・・愛死」
「そうだよ」
「そんな」
ベクターは震えている。
「流れよわが涙、とベクターは言った」

「えーい、どうにでもなれ！」
ベクターが妖刀ムラムラを抜くや、ハナコがボールを投げつける。
妖刀ムラムラは空を切った。
「それだ、それだよ、今のボールだよ」コード・ウェイナーが感心して言う。
「え？無我夢中で・・・・」
「そのボールがあれば君はウチューリーグで無敵だ」

驚くヒズシとベクター。
「いつＸＸジャポンを！？」
ハナコはそっと首を振った。
「ビールスを打ったのは私じゃないの、いや、私なんだけど・・」
ヒズシもベクターも、駆けつけた旗本もキョトンとする。
「私が甲子園を目指したのは、５歳の時。その時はまだ女の子で憧れの男の子がリトルリーグに入ってたの。その幼馴染の子の名はヨザワ・キネジ」
はっとするヒズシ。
「ヨザワの息子か」
「恐らく過去、今よりちょっと未来の過去の私が甲子園に行きたいがために、ヨザワ家からビールスを盗んで・・」
「過去の自分が男を選んだから、今のハナコも男に・・」
やはり気楽に歴史は改編できないようだ。
「ベイベー！」ベクターが叫んだ。「ハナコ。君の甲子園決勝戦の時間帯にタイムワープだ。２７個めの三振を取れるようにアドバイスを」
ハナコは首を振った。
「いいのかい」
「いいのよ、過去はもう変えない」
将軍はモーレツに感動していた。「どうやら最終回も近そうだ」

そこへ、ドアーズの「ジ・エンド」のイントロと共にヒズシとハナコが現れた。
「ビューチフル・フレンドよ、永遠の№２よ、何を迷っているんだい」
「ヒズシ。いつも俺の先を行くヒズシ」
「そうとも。お前は決して私を抜くことはできないんだよ」
「今は違う。俺には妖刀ムラムラがある」
「人や動物を斬ることができない、なまくらカタナを後生大事に差しているようではな」
「だがそれ以外はすべて斬る！」
「妖刀ムラムラでも斬れないものはあるさ」
「ない！」
「愛は斬れるのか？」
「斬る！」
「いや斬れないね。何故ならお前は愛を知らない。知らないものをどうやって斬るのだ」
「う・・・」
「ベクター、お前は頑張った。もういいじゃないか。この“ＸＸジャポン改”を封印して帰ろうじゃないか」
ベクターはがっくりと膝をついた。
「ベクターさん、帰りましょ」
ハナコが近寄る。
ハナコを見上げるベクター。
だが、ジンマシンはでなかった。
「ハナコ、男になったのか？」
ヒズシが絶句する。

リーゼントヘアーの甘いマスクの男が屈強な戦士を倒してしまったので、将軍は驚いた。
「武蔵！　参れ！」
なんと身の丈１０尺ほどある二足歩行ロボットがズシンズシンとやって来て刀を抜いた。
「スキあり」
ベクターはムラムラを一閃すると武蔵は「ピー」とビープ音を吐きながら倒れた。
「つ、強い」
そこにドンが駆けつけた。「助太刀いたす。北のくのいち軍団！」
小刀を持った女たちが駆けつけると、ベクターは「ぎゃー」と叫んで逃げ出した。
そして長屋に逃げ込んだ。
「い、いかん」と将軍。「あそこは空気感染するヴァージョンの『ＸＸジャポン改』製造長屋なんじゃ」
ムダに大きな声で叫んだので長屋の中のベクターにも丸聞こえだった。
ベクターは緑色に光る培養槽を見ながら呟いた。
「こ、これを破壊したら、ジャポンから女が消える・・おれの蕁麻疹も消える・・」
ベクターはムラムラを構えた。改編された歴史は、その不思議で強力なちからでもって、またしても同じ悲劇を繰り返そうとしているのか。

地面でのた打ち回っているベクターの許へナゴシマ将軍が現れた。
「そこなお前、なにをしておるのじゃ？」
「お武家様。女と口をきいたために、蕁麻疹ができました」
「お前は女が嫌いか？」
「いや、好きなんですが体がいうことをききません」
「そうじゃ、お前が差しているカタナはなんというんじゃ？」
「はい、妖刀ムラムラでございます」
「なに！」
将軍の目が光る。
「ほほー。それでは相談じゃが、この黄金のメイドロボットと交換しないかえ？」
ベクターはごくりと唾を飲み込む。
まさに夢のメイドロボット。
「そ、それは・・・・・・できません」
「そうか。ではこのシルバーのバニーちゃんロボットではどうじゃ」
ベクターは舌を出しよだれを垂らした。
「そ、それでもなりません」
「なぜじゃ？好きそうな顔をしているが」
「このカタナは人を選ぶのでございます」
「ほほー、おい、こやつをひっとらえよ」
十手を持った男たちが駆け寄る。
「神妙にせい」
ベクターはカタナを抜いて一閃した。
バタバタと倒れる男たち。
「安心なされ、みね打ちでござるよ」

その時だ、さらに上空に新たなＵＦＯが現れた。
「見つけたぞ、コード・ウェイナー」
「げ、その声は・・」
ＵＦＯ同士がスピーカーで会話を始めた。
「あの新しいＵＦＯの声って、ハラキリ・プラネット参照のボス宇宙人じゃない！」
ボス宇宙人のＵＦＯが巨大なハンマーでコード・ウェイナーのＵＦＯをぶんなぐった。大爆発。
「ふぉっふぉっふぉ、わしを左遷できると思ったか。さーて、ウチューシリーズを見に帰ろう」
ボスは去って行った。
とにかくやっぱり野球のおかげで宇宙人を追い払えたようだ。
「あとはＸＸジャポンの大感染の原因を探すだけね」
「どっかに極秘の製造工場があるんじゃないかな」

「ヒズシ、男に戻ったのね」
「元々男だよ、何言ってるんだい」
「まあ、いいわ。注射器も回収したし」
「でも変なんだよな」
「何が？」
「いや、“ＸＸの悲劇”では世界中の女が男になったんだろ。だから子供が産まれなくなり人類はゆるやかに滅亡への道をたどっていたはずなんだが」
「だから？」
「こんな注射器で注射して回っても、とてもじゃないが世界中の女を男に変えられない」
「つまり」
「そう、もっと恐ろしく強力で感染力がケタ外れのビールスがどこかにあるはずだ」
「まあ怖い」
「とりあえず帰ってから考えるか」
「そうしましょう」

そこへＵＦＯからの声が。
「おーい、すばしっこくて凄いパワーのロボットをなんとかしてくれ」

「田村はまだか！」
サラリーマンが苦々しげに呟いた。
「田村め、田村８兄弟め。なんで田村ばっかり俺の部下なんだよ。ポケベルに連絡しろよ」
サラリーマンは肩を落とした。
「孤独だ・・」
そこにゴーゴーサンダー号到着。
「どうやら、『田村来なくて孤独で熱い街』の間違いだったみたいね」
ここはシンジュク。ヒートアイランド現象でいつも華氏１００度まであがるのである。
「見て、ハナコ」
ヒズコが指差す先に、野良犬。しかも注射器をくわえているではないか。
さっそく取り返そうとした。そのとき、ジェシーに殴られたＵＦＯが犬の目の前に不時着し、風圧で吹っ飛んだ注射器がヒズコに突き刺さった。
「うおおお！」
「ヒズコ！？」
「え？　誰それ、俺はヒズシだよ」

「ＵＦＯが消えた。ジェシーも・・・・」
ベクターは呆然とした。
思わず腰に差した妖刀ムラムラを抜いてしまった。
ベクターはカタナフェチでもあった。
「あ、しまった。これを抜くと何かを斬らずば収めることができない」
ベクターは１００ヤードほど前方のポプラの木に向かって「魔剣ボンジョレヌンボー」と叫ぶやカタナを一閃した。
なんと、ポプラの木は真ん中からまっぷたつ。
「また、つまらぬものを斬ってしまった」
ベクターは妖刀を鞘に収めた。

それを見ていたのは、気絶からいち早く回復したハナコとヒズコ。
「みごとだったわ、ベクター」
「あんたはヒズシ・・・・？」
「いやだわ、あたしはヒズコじゃないの」
「女か？」
「もちろんよ、うふ」
「ぎゃー」
ベクターは全身をかきむしった。
どうやら女アレルギーでジンマシンがでるらしい。

「ワープ地点はわかってるわ、行きましょう」
ヒズコとハナコはのた打ち回っているベクターを無視してゴーゴーサンダー号に乗り込んだ。

「ヒズシから地球ガード隊ＮＯ１の座を得るためにコッソリとタイムトンネルを付いて来て正解だった」
ベクターは嬉しそうに言った。
ちなみにカセットテープでウォークマンを聞いていたから気絶しなかったのである。
「行け！　ジェシー」
「な、なんだこのロボットは」
コード・ウェイナーは大慌てだ。「なぜか弱点を知られておるわい。この時間帯に地球の歴史をくつがえすような惨劇があるという電波パターンがあるから来たのに、わしらが惨劇になっちゃう。たまらなく孤独で熱い町に逃げ込むとするか」
スピーカーＯＮなのでベクターは「なに！？」と叫んだ。
「どこにあるのか聞きださねば！　ジェシー、攻撃をやめろ」
その瞬間ＵＦＯがワープした。

ベクターは昔の映画スター、ジェームス・ディーンに似ている。
憂いを帯びた眼差しで若い女性を見つめれば、ほとんどの女性はイチコロであろう。
ただ残念なことにベクターはロボットフェチであった。
だからゴーゴーサンダー号とジェシーを借りることができた時は、天にも昇るいい気分であった。

しかし、どうやってベクターは過去へ来ることができたのか。

ベクターが指を鳴らすとジェシーが現れた。
「お呼びですか、ベクター様」
「ううう。たまんねえなあ」

コード・ウェイナーはタップリ歌って満足した。
「子分たち、私の歌はどうだ」
「宇宙に響きます」
「惑星を砕きます」
「ほっほっほ、前ボスを左遷して新ボスになった甲斐があったわい。ＵＦＯも手に入ったし」
スピーカーがＯＮのままなので、気絶しなかったただ一人の地球人はバッチリ聞いていた。
「あれはハラキリ・プラネットのＵＦＯなのか。では煙突などがブリキで出来ていて弱点なんだ」
気絶しなかったのは、ベクター。そう地球ガード隊ＮＯ２の男である。
「やっと出番だ！」
ここでベクターの外見について紹介しよう。

「それがどしたーー」
いつの間にか、少し離れたところにあるお城の天守閣からも拡声器のようなものがでている。
今の声はナゴシマ将軍のようだ。
ドン・ペリニョンと酒を飲んだのだろう、酔っ払っているようだ。
「イヤ、ダカラ、ウチュージンデアール」
「宇宙にいれば誰だって宇宙人だ、ばーろ」
将軍は酒癖がよくないらしい。
「ワレワレハ、ウチュウジョウヤク１５６８９５０条ダイ２５８４コウ６５８ゴウ３ノ２ノ５０ホソク６５４１５６ニヨリ、ココヲイチジセンキョスル」
「何言ってんのかわかんねーぞ」
「失礼した。私は銀河方面探査隊司令官、コード・ウェイナーである。ここで未曾有の出来事が起こるという情報があったので未来からやってきた」
「ますますわからんぞー」
「やかましー。一曲歌うぞ」
「勝手に歌えー」

５分後、ＵＦＯの半径１キロ以内で気を失わなかった者はただ一人しかいなかった・・・。

未来フォンの向こう側では祝勝ムードだ。
「欲しがりましょう、勝ったから」
ウィンがほがらかに叫び、樽酒が割られる音がしてきた。Ｇショック未来フォンでなかったらとうにハナコは粉砕していたことだろう。
「ああ、ＵＦＯが！」
ヨザワが叫んだ。妙に見覚えがあるアダムスキー型ＵＦＯの下部がスライドし、何か出てきた。
「砲台か！？」
しかしよく見ると、それは拡声器だった。
「アーアー、マイクテスッ」
そしてマイクの向こうがザワっとなった。何か言いそうだ。その時。
「キーーーーン」
と巨大なフィードバック音がして、ＵＦＯの中で宇宙人たちがずっこける音がした。
「ワ、ワレワレハ　ウチュウジンデアル」

ハナコは気絶しなかった。
ベンチに腰掛けて呆然と空を見上げているヨザワが目に入ったからだ。
ヨザワはハナコに言った。
「どうやらあんたは、いや我々は強大な敵からジャポンを守らなければならないようだな」
ハナコも空を見上げた。
そこには、いつか見た巨大ＵＦＯが停泊していた。
周りには沢山の小型ＵＦＯが飛び回っている。

未来フォンが鳴った。
ウィンが叫んでいる。
「消えた、ＵＦＯがすべて消えたよ。良かった。ジャポン万歳！」
ハナコはため息をついた。
なぜＵＦＯは時間を飛び越えて過去へ来たのだろう。

「うーん、ムニャムニャ、あと５分・・」
「バカ言ってんじゃない！」
ハナコはヒズシを引きずり起こした。
「地球がピン・・」
ハナコは絶句した。目も口も、鼻の穴もまん丸になって目の前にいる人間を凝視している。
「ヒ・・ヒズシ？」
「何よハナコ。ヒズシって誰？　私はヒズコよ」
ヒズシも女になっていた。
「もう細かい設定はわかんないんだけど、あんたも元・女だったの！？」
「何言ってんのよ」ヒズシ、いやヒズコはクネクネした。
「あたしはずっと女の子なんだから」
（も、もういや・・）今度はハナコが気絶する番だった。

ハナコは途方に暮れた。
「コランを、コランをだしてくれ」
ところがウィンの返事は、
「コランはアデラドと宇宙探査に行っている」
「え？それでは歴史が変わっているじゃないか」
「アデラドと離れたくなくて、密航したらしい」
「ウィン、教えて。たまらなく孤独で熱い街てどこなの？」
「私には皆目分かりません」
「万能機に聞いてよ」
「ハナコさん、なんか言葉が女っぽくなってますね」
「もともと女ですもの」
「そうですか。私は今のあなたの方が好きです」
「・・・・・」

ハナコは気絶しているヒズシに近寄った。
「ヒズシ、起きてよ。助けてよ。地球を救ってよ。私を救ってよ」

「注射器がない！」
ハナコとヨザワははいつくばって探した。
「何かおさがしですか」
ムエタイ戦士たちがやってきた。
「踏むから来るんじゃねー」
ハナコのアッパーでムエタイ戦士たちは吹っ飛んだ。
「ない、ない！」
ヨザワもハナコも真っ青だ。あの注射器が誰かにわたったら。
「いや、飲んでも感染します」
ヨザワが言った。
「犬ネコでも感染します」
ヨザワが言った。
「だってどこにも無いんだもーん」
ハナコがきれた。
「万能機！　どこ！？」
電話の向こうからピコピコと音がした。
「たまらなく孤独で熱い街にあるそうだ」ウィンが言った。
「どこよ！」

ハナコの灰色の脳細胞がフル回転する。

ＸＸの悲劇→ハナコ・男→甲子園→ヨザワの息子パスボール→ヨザワの息子グレる
ＸＸの悲劇回避→ハナコ・女→甲子園無理→ヨザワの息子グレる

ヨザワの息子はこの際どうでもいいか。
隣りではヨザワが息子のプロ野球の契約金で病院を建てる計画を練っている。

ＸＸの悲劇→ハナコ・男→ＵＦＯ来る→ウチューリーグ→しかし人類は数十年後に滅亡
ＸＸの悲劇回避→ハナコ・女→ＵＦＯ来る→ＵＦＯに占領される→人類滅亡？

そうか。
ハナコは名案を思いついた。
俺だけが男になればいいのだ。

「ヨザワさん、そのビールスを俺に注射して、あとのは処分してくれ」
「え？」
「俺が男になって甲子園に行かないと、息子も行けないぜ」

ヨザワはハナコに注射しようとした。
しかし、注射器が見当たらない。
どこかで紛失したようだ。

「えっ！　ＸＸジャポンってそんな恐ろしいビールスだったんですか」
ヨザワが叫んだ。
「おなかが痛くなったり、熱が出るビールスだと思い込んでました」
そしてヨザワの目がキラキラしだした。
「ボクは改心しました」
どうやらまたもやハナコが世界を救ったようである。はっと気づいてハナコは自分の体をまさぐった。
「お、女になってる、つまり・・映画スターになってる！」
その時だ。ハナコの未来フォンが鳴った。未来から電話が出来る装置だ。もちろん着信元が地球ガード隊のウィンだ。
「ハ、ハナコ君。何をしてくれたんだ！？　未来はメチャクチャだ。いきなり宇宙人に占領されている」
「はい？」
ピコピコと万能機の音がした。
「フムフム、野球が世界を救ったはずが、過去が改編されたのがいかんそうだ」
そうだ。ハラキリ・プラネットではハナコが野球でエイリアンを改心させたのだった。今回ヨザワを改心させたら未来が変わったのだ。
「もうビールスなんて要りません。ぼくの息子も甲子園だし・・」ヨザワご満悦。

ハナコの脳裏に甲子園決勝での栄光と挫折が蘇った。

たしか、あのときのキャッチャーもヨザワ・・・・。
「てめー、パスボールのヨザワか！」
超絶美女の（としか見えない）ハナコがもの凄い形相で腕をつかんだので、ムキムキマンであることも忘れてヨザワは震え上がった。
「知らん知らん。私は野球はやったことがない。野球をやっているのは息子だ。まだ小さいが」
「息子に言っとけ。甲子園では絶対にパスボールはするなとな」
「え？甲子園。息子が甲子園に出られるんですか」

ハナコは我に返って思った。
ヨザワ→ビールスを撒く→ハナコ男になる→甲子園に出る→栄光と挫折→ウチューリーグ
ヨザワ→ビールス撒かない→ハナコ女のまま→甲子園出られない→映画スター（？）

「うおー、どっちがいいんだー」

筋肉でふくれあがったヨザワは震える手で将軍とドンを指差した。
「な、な、なにをしてるんですか！　ドン。そいつは敵です、クジラ食らいのジャポン人です」
「ジャポン人も話せばわかるやつじゃった。もう内戦はやめた」
ドンはあっさり言い放った。
「そ、そんな！　４２年間工作員としての修行はなんだったんですか」
だがヨザワの嘆きを無視してドンと将軍は無言で見つめ会った。バックに薔薇が描かれている。
「ドン」
「将軍」
そして、いや、これ以上は書くまい。
「くっそー！」
逆上したヨザワは近くにいたハナコを人質に取った。「この女にＸＸジャポンを打ってやる。股間にバットとタマタマをぶらさげるがいい」
「バット、球！？」元高校球児ハナコは叫んだ。

ナゴシマ将軍とドン・ペリニョンは忍法の使いすぎでヘトヘトになり、座り込んでしまった。
しばらくは肩で息をしていたが、二人は立ち上がると近寄りガッチリと握手をした。
「おお、将軍、あなたの忍法は切れますね」
「ノン、ノン。ドンの北忍法こそ」
「直接会うことができて良かった」
「そうですね」
「もう、悪い風評にとらわれず、いがみ合うのはやめませんか？」
「もちろんですとも。こんな素晴らしいドンの国には、素晴らしい国民ばかりでしょう」
「いやあ、ジャポンには負けますよ」
「ささ、蒸気籠車で宮城へどうぞ」

二人が肩を組んで歩き出した時、ヨザワが叫んだ。
「待てーーー」

「すみません！」
ヒズシは近くにいた人におじぎをして質問をした。
「あやしい白衣の男はどこにいきましたか」
「し、知らないな」
その男は筋肉ムキムキだ。だが彼の着る白衣はサイズが明らかに小さいようだ。
「おかしいな。あなたとはどこかで会いましたね」
「私はヨザワではない。だってこんなに筋肉があるんだもの」
「た、たしかに。せめて名刺を交換しませんか」
ふたりはおじぎをして名刺を交換した。
【細菌学者/ドクター・ヨザワ/（北政府のスパイではありません！）】
と書かれていた。
「やっぱり！」
その瞬間、Ｘジャポンでパワーアップしたヨザワの筋肉パンチを受けてヒズシは気絶した。

将軍も負けてはいない。
「忍法、木の葉隠れの術！」
ドン・ペリニョンの攻撃をかわす。
「ぬぬ、北忍法、分身の術！」
なんと、ドンが１０人に！
「忍法、こむら返し！」
「いててて」
ドンが一人だけ足をさすった。
「お前か！」
将軍は手裏剣を投げる。
「北忍法、変わり身の術！」
手裏剣が刺さったのは棒切れだった。
「北忍法、真空投げ！」
「うぎゃーー」
将軍は地面に投げ飛ばされた。
「忍法、ベホマ！」
将軍のＨＰは満タンになった。

飛び交う忍法の応酬に、平伏してた者たちも立ち上がり見守っている。
「あっヨザワがいない」
ハナコが気がついた。
「しまった。どこへ行ったんだ」

蒸気籠車に乗った将軍がやってきて、印籠を見せた。
「北が来た　ついに見つけた　わしも来た」
ナゴシマは籠を降りると、飛び六方と呼ばれる将軍独特の走り方でドンに近寄った。
護衛のムエタイ戦士たちも一緒だ。
「ふふふ、見つけたぞ、ヨザワ！」
将軍が哄笑した。
「聞いたか、ハナコ」
「やっぱりあれはヨザワだったのね！」
ドンがすばやくケムリ玉を地面にたたきつけた。
「北忍法、土煙殺人事件！」
「ぬ、見えん！」

と、そこへ、「北」と書かれたハチマキを締め、「北」と書かれたタスキを掛け、「北」と書かれたＴシャツを着、「北」と書かれたのぼりを持った男が現れた。
男はダウジング棒を叩き落とした。
「あ、あなたは」与力が叫ぶ。
「北の首領、ドン・ペリニョン！」
「いかにも」男はヨザワをかばうように立ちふさがった。
与力や同心や警官が周りを取り囲む。

「私がいる半径５メートル以内は治外法権なのだ。それ以上近寄るな。下っ端に用はない、将軍か総理を呼べ」
胸に勲章やらバッジやらを沢山つけた小太りの男が汗をかきながら走ってきた。
「ぜいぜい、私は警視総監の・・・」
「下っ端に用はないと言っただろうが。将軍か総理を出せ」
プライドを傷つけられた警視総監は立ち去るわけにも行かず、困った顔をした。

ドンドン
遠くから太鼓の音がする。
「控え、控えー」
北の首領とヨザワとヒズシとハナコ以外は、すぐにその場に平伏した。

「あなたに用がある！　あなたに用がある！」
与力たちは「め」と書かれた提灯を持って駆け寄ってきた。
ヨザワという男はか細い声で「ヒー」と叫び、逃げ出した。
「いったいなんの騒ぎだろうか」
ヒズシはダウジング棒がずっとヨザワという男を追っているのを不思議に思っていた。
「俺たちが追っているのは、国際テロリストのヨザワだ」
「あの人の名刺にははっきり国際テロリストではないと書いてあったわね」
「しかし、裏の裏というものがある。どんでん返しのサプライズで、あの男がヨザワだったらどうだろう」
「そんな、できのいいミステリ小説じゃないんだから」
なんとそのときダウジング棒がヒズシの手を離れ、逃げるヨザワに向かって飛んでいった。
「不吉な」
ヒズシはゾッとした。

「でもなあ、ダウジングは彼を指している」
ヒズシは不思議そうに言った。
「ちょっと、話を聞いてみようか」
「そうね」
ヒズシは男を止めておじぎをした。
「すみませんが」
男もおじぎをしたが目がキョロキョロしている。
「私はこういう者ですが」
ヒズシは名刺を差し出す。
そこには【地球ガード隊/ヒズシ・ハゴモゴ】と書かれている。
「はあ」と言いながら、男もブルブル震える手で名刺を出す。
【細菌学者/ドクター・ヨザワ/（北政府のスパイではありません！）】
「細菌学者ですかあ」
「ええ、まあ・・・」
男はしきりにキョロキョロし汗が滴り落ちる。
「なんか、恐ろしいビールスを持った北政府のスパイがいるようですねえ」
「ええ、そのようですね・・・」
「でも、あなたは名刺にちゃんとスパイじゃないって書いてあるから違うんでしょうね」
「ええ、もちろんですよ」
男の声はか細く、足は振るえ、口の端がピクピクしている。
「いたぞーー」
十手を持った与力がヒズシたちに向かって走ってきた。

自転車に乗った若い警官がピリャーとホイッスルを吹いた。
「怪しいやつがいたぞぉ！」
「え！　どこ？」
ヒズシがキョロキョロすると警官がヒズシを捕まえた。
「あやしいやつめ」
「お、俺のどこが！？」
すると年配の警官がやって来た。
「愚か者！　国際テロリストのヨザワがそんな怪しい格好をするものか。目立たない格好をしてるに決まってる」
警官たちは去っていった。
「なるほど！　目立たない格好か。ヨザワは変装の名人で、戸籍も無いから生まれもわからないくらいなんだ。それが判れば生まれた瞬間に処刑できるのだが」
そこに白衣を着て注射器を持った４０歳くらいの男が走ってきた。
「あれは怪しいからヨザワじゃないな」
ヒズシとハナコは頷きあった。

二人は辺りを見回した。
キモノを着た娘がいる、はしゃぎまわる子供がいる、赤ちゃんをあやす母親がいる・・・。
「なんて素敵なのかしら」
「ああ、そうだな。これでなくちゃいかん、なんとしてもＸＸの悲劇は回避しなければ」

ヒズシはダウジング用の直角に折れ曲がった針金を２本取り出すと、捜索をはじめた。
銀色のコスチューム、胸に赤いＶの字、唐草模様のマントの二人組を気味悪がって、誰もが道を明けてくれる。
ジャポンの警察も犯人を捜しているのだろう、パトカーや自転車が走り回っている。
「最初の感染者が確認されたのはここなんだ、だからこの近くに犯人はいるはずなんだが」

その時、チャノマ・ルームの天井に張り付いていたニンジャがストンと降りて、将軍に耳打ちした。
「な、なんじゃとー！　ヨザワが盗んだのはＸＸの方じゃと！」
そこにいた全員が蒼ざめた。
「ヨザワを・・北政府のスパイであるヨザワを捕らえるんじゃー！」

ＸＸの悲劇まで２：００

ギンザ・ストリート・ステーションにポカリと円の穴が開いた。そこから男女が抜け出てきた。
男は通りがかったサラリーマンに駆け寄りおじぎをして聞いた。
「今は西暦何年何月何日ですか」
「１９９Ｘ年５月１８日です」
男女は顔を見合わせた。
「タイムトラベル成功だ。ハナコ」
「ＸＸの悲劇を食い止めなきゃね、ヒズシ」
そう、未来からタイムマシンでやって来た地球ガード隊の二人である。
「チャンスは一度しかないんだそうだ」
実は過去に未来の時間線をオーバーラップできるのは一度っきりなのだ。二度と人類はこの時間帯にタイムトラベル出来ないのである。
それにしてもウチューリーグに行ったはずのハナコはいかにして地球ガード隊に入ったのか。

チャノマ・ルームがざわめいた。
「これって、合成じゃね？」
「背中にチャックみたいなのが見えたぞ」
ヒソヒソと小声が交わされる。
　
すっかりご満悦の将軍はあぐらをかいている。
またも旗本が前へ進み出る。
「おおそれながら・・・」
「ん？なんじゃ？」
「ヨザワが盗み出したのは、このビールスでしょうか」
「無論じゃ。これが世界に広まると困るのお」
チャノマ・ルームに安堵のため息が広がった。
　
と、テレヴィジョンが次の映像を映し出した。
どうやらヴィデオのスイッチが切られてなかったようだ。

スモウレスラーのように太った女が下着姿で立っている。
そこへ白衣の男が現れて腕に注射。
すると、みるみる巨乳が萎み口の周りや胸に毛が生え、股間がもっこりしてきたようだ。
チャノマ・ルームに衝撃が走る。
旗本が「将軍様、こ、これは？」
「うん。女を男にするビールスでＸＸジャポンと言うらしいが、女が男になっても面白くないやね」

「ポチっとな」
将軍がテレヴィジョンのスイッチをひねった。テレヴィジョンの上のアンテナをいじると映りがよくなった。
「おっと、違った。今回はヴィデオを見てもらうんじゃった」
将軍がヴィデオ・テープを入れると、水着の女たちが水着の奪い合いをしている映像が映った。
「おおっ！」
「ち、ちがった」将軍は焦りながらテープを替えた。
白黒で③と言う字が浮かんだ。②・・①・・。
摩天楼をバックに虎が「ガオー」と吠える演出が始まった。そして波頭がくだけ、赤文字で「ジャポン」というフェードイン。
続いて映ったのは、筋肉ムキムキの西洋人だった。パンツ一枚でポーズをとっている。
横に日本人が現れた。眼鏡に出っ歯。カメラをブラさげているが、体格が西洋人の半分もない。
西洋人がフッと息をかけると日本人は吹っ飛んだ。泣く日本人に白衣の男が優しく声をかけた。そして注射。
なんと日本人の体格が急に良くなった。ムキムキだ。先ほどの西洋人はビックリして京都タワーの最上階に逃げた。
日本人はタワーごと持ち上げ海に投げ捨てた。劇終の文字とともにフェードアウト。
「というわけじゃ。日本人を強くするビールス。その名も『Ｘジャポン』」将軍満足げ。

将軍はまた一句詠んだ。
「ビールスと　ビートルズとは　似て非なり」
商人の中から「プッ」という苦笑が。
将軍は侍に眼を向けアゴをしゃくった。
侍のなかから数人が立ち上がり、笑った男を引きずり出す。
チャノマ・ルームが静まり返るが、侍たちは何事もなかったように戻ってきた。

「我がジャポンは、列強から１００年は遅れてしまったのじゃ。その差を埋めるのは容易ではない。そこでワシは、もう一度世界にジャポンあり、ジャポンを甘く見ると痛い目に遭わすぞというメッセージを世界に発信するために、卑怯な手段ではあるが禁じ手ではあるが世界をあっと言わすビールスを作らせたのじゃ」
旗本が再度問う。
「して、その効能とはどれほどのものでしょう」
「うむ」
将軍が指を鳴らすと、腰元がテレヴィジョンを運んできた。
「まずは見てもらおうかの」

　壊滅的バイオハザード「ＸＸの悲劇」まで、２４：００。

「将軍様のおなりー！」
江戸城。
大老が裏声で叫ぶと黄金のフスマがするすると開き、カブキ・メイクのナゴシマ将軍が現れた。
将軍は六方といわれる将軍独特の歩き方で花道を歩き、黄金の座布団に正座した。
将軍はチャノマ・ルームに平伏す、商人、旗本、老中、侍、ゲイシャガールズをジロリと睨み、一句詠んだ。
「はたしてか　飛ぶ鳥落とす　キリギリス」
そして叫んだ。
「裏切り者の生物学者ヨザワはまだ捕まらんのか！　総理！」
ギオダ総理は汗をぬぐいながら「まだにござる」と顔を上げずに言った。
旗本が言った。
「将軍、ヨザワが盗んだとされる恐怖のビールスは、一体どのようなものでしょうか」

さらにお便りが続々と。

「どこが大事件なんですか」年齢不詳・女

「作者がパソコンやネットに疎いのがよーく分かりました」２０歳・女

「電脳世界は勝手が違ったようで」４６歳・男

「『逆まわるの世界』はあまりの不評で絶版ってほんと？」１９歳・男

「毎日書かんかい、ボケ」３歳・幼児

読者から感動のお便りが続々と。

「感動して大泣きしました」４５歳女

「設定に破綻が無いところがすごい！」２８歳男

「まさにＳＦ。いやド級のＳＦだ」９歳男

「膨大な分量なのに４回も読んでしまいました」３８歳女

「はやくＸＸの悲劇の詳細を知りたいです。もちろん考えてますよね？」３１歳男

５人は団長のパソコンから無事に戻ることができた。
団長は電話代がかさんだことにブツブツ言っていたが、コランに手術をしてもらい毎日脇腹を掻いてのた打ち回っているらしい。
コランはアデラドと仲睦まじく暮らしているようだが、浮気の虫がムズムズしていそう。
Ｋはコランから引き取ったジェシーにおいしい料理を毎日作ってもらい１０キロは太ったそうな。
ヒズシとウィンとハナコと宇宙人は今回出番がなかったので、次こそはと期待している。



だが水面下では活字防衛隊が絡んだ事件が進行中のようだ・・・。
いや、これはまた別の話し。
語るべき時が来たら、ミスター・Ｊがつぶやくだろう。

やがて夕日が沈んだ。Ｋは沖を見て思わず吹いてしまった。
イカ釣り漁船が輝いていたのだ。
「うわー、釣れて釣れてしかたない！」コランが叫んだ。
そこにジェシーが全員を連れて登場だ。アデラドが叫んだ。
「この前はネコにうつつを抜かして、今度はイカに浮気なのね！」
「げ、アデラド！　イカにまで嫉妬されたらかなわん」
コランは半泣きである。その時Ｋがアデラドの肩を叩いた。「君もイカを釣りなさい」
「また釣れたわ！」
いつの間にかアデラドもイカに夢中である。
「私、間違ってたわ」アデラドの目からウロコがバラバラ落ちた。「輪郭の無いものにヤキモチを焼いてもダメなんだわ。これからはもう嫉妬しません」
アデラドとコランは抱きあった。団長も現実に戻れると大喜びだ。
「さあ帰ろう」Ｋは言った。「次回で最終話だ。どんなオチが待っているやら」

「ジェシー、助けてくれーー」
Ｋは叫んだ。
魂の叫びとはこのことであろう。
「お呼びですか、ご主人様」
なんとそこへ、右手で団長の頭を、左手でアデラドを抱えたジェシーが立っていた。
「こ、こでほどのご都合主義な話しは見たことも聞いたこともないばい」
活字防衛隊の男女は白目をむいて卒倒した。

イカ釣り漁船はいつの間にか消えている。
夕焼けで真っ赤な海をバックにアデラドが泣いている。
「あいつら（注：『ハラキリ・プラネット』を参照のこと）に捕まったとき、私の体はボロボロにされてたのよ。宇宙船を大破されレイガンでやたらと撃たれ」
１人と１体と１頭は静かに聞いている。
「そこへ流しの医者がやってきて治してくれたのよ。でも首から下は手の施しようがないので機械の体なのよ」
「・・・・」
「それなのに、それなのに、コランは・・・・」

「あなたたちは？」
Ｋは恐る恐る聞いた。すると男女はすばやく立ち上がり、膝を曲げ、両腕を横に伸ばすシンメトリックなポーズをとった。
「私たちは活字防衛隊！」
「は、はあ」
Ｋは絶句した。
「私たち、ご都合主義の小説が許せなくってよ」
「あなたも僕たちと活字を護りましょう」
「い、いやぁ・・」
Ｋはポリポリと頭を掻いた。活字防衛隊の背後に、奇妙な人影がいるのが目にはいった。
砂浜で足音などしないのに、抜き足差し足だ。かえって目立ってしまっている。
「あ！　あの後姿は！？」
怪しい男が振り向いた。コランだった。
「見つけた！」
するとブルー○ーカーの広告漫画の絵のようにさわやかだった活字防衛隊の形相が変わった。悪鬼羅刹とはこの顔面のことだ。
「ご都合主義ぞ！」
「死刑ぞ！」
コランは走ってイカ釣り漁船に乗り込んだ。
「やばい逃げられる！」とＫ。
「逃がさんわ！」と活字防衛隊。

Ｋは濁流に飲まれ、底へ沈んだり水面へ浮いたりした。
「もうダメだ。最後にジェシーの“ソフトクリームたっぷりラーメン四川風”を食べたかったな・・・」
Ｋは意識を失った。
　
気がつくとＫは海岸にいた。
「やっぱりここもご都合主義の世界なんだな。やだやだ」
後ろから声がする。
振り向くと男と女が長椅子に座っている。
しかも、海に背を向けて。
「ご都合主義がＳＦやミステリをダメにしたんだよな。やだやだ」
「でも愛は必要ですわ」
「たいていのミステリでは美女が出てくるんだぜ。しかも絶世の。これだって立派なご都合主義じゃないのかい、やだやだ」
「でも愛は必要ですわ」
「美女と子供と動物をだして、ちょっと泣かせる話を書けば売れるんだろ、やだやだ」
「でも愛は必要ですわ」
会話になってないようだ。
「あの・・・」Ｋは恐る恐る尋ねる。

「う、うわ、ノックくらい」
とつぜん団長の悲鳴が聞こえてきた。
「よ、よせ、ここにはコランは・・」
「キーッ！　どこよ、どこに隠したのよ！　あんたが隠したのよ！　あおのろくでなしのコランを！」
固く絞ったタオルを頭の上に乗せ、Ｋは首をすくめた。
「なんだ？　現実世界では何が起きているんだ？」
「はやく出しなさい！　あの浮気モノのバカコランを！」
「よ、よしてくれアデラド君・・、そ、そんなだからコランは電脳空間に逃げちゃうんだ」
「電脳？　ほう、ここね！　何これ？　下水道にお風呂とスシオプション？　くだらない。下水は汚水でしょ」
「わー、汚水って書いちゃだめだー」
Ｋに向かって大量の汚水が流れてきた。
「ぎゃーーー！」

「コランがスペースジャックと言われる宇宙最高の名医だ、というのは知っているな？」
「ええ。そうらしいですね」
「らしいじゃないんだよ。実際そうなんだよ」
「宇宙にはもっとすごい名医もいるんじゃないですか？」
「いるかも知れんが、私が知る限りではコランが一番だ」
「へえー」
Ｋはコランがアデラドと再会した時の、コランのやに下がった顔を思い浮かべながら答えた。
「それで私はコランに手術してもらったのだ」
「じゃあ、もう用はないじゃないですか」
「ところがだな」
「はい」
「私には昔から左の脇腹を掻くクセがあって、それがとても気持ちいいのだ」
「はあ・・・」
「それをもう一度だけでも味わいたいんだよ」
「つまり？」
「要は元の体に戻りたいのだ｣
「ええー？あのガンだらけの疥癬だらけの体にですか？」
「ああ、あの左の脇腹を掻きむしる快感を味わえるなら、死んでもいいのだ」
「でも、デッド・オア・アライブと言ってましたが」
「コランの欠片でもいいのだ。欠片があればクローン再生できる」
「はあ・・・」
「Ｋ、頼むよ、Ｋ」
「はあ・・・」
Ｋはスシを頬張りながら、人生って奴はままならないものだなと思った。
「ところで、なんでコランは電脳空間に逃げたのですか？」
「うん。実はな・・・」

Ｋの耳に「カチャカチャ」と音が聞こえてきた。
「何の音だ？」
「ああ」と団長。「いま慌ててプログラムしてるんだ。なんせまさか下水道にもぐるプレイヤーが出るとはおもわなんだ、そこらへんのプログラミングは雑なんだよ」
「ふーん、じゃまず臭いのをなくしてください」
「うるさいやつめ、では悪臭パラメーターを０に」
「おお、臭くなくなった。では次はスシをください」
「スシね」
下水に盆が流れてきた。スシが乗っている。
「いくら臭くなくても下水に乗ったスシはなあ」
「やかましいやつめ！」
なんと下水が入浴剤いっぱいのお湯に変わった。
「あと日本酒ね！　ハービバノンノ」Ｋはスシをほおばりながらリクエストした。
「ビバノンノじゃねー！」団長が怒った。
「コランをつかまえるんだ！」
「その理由を聞きたかったんですよ。何でですかい？」
「実はな・・」

ウ～ウ～ウ～
サイレンが鳴り出した。
「あーあー、本日は晴天なり。警告、警告、この地区はＲ-１８に指定されました。対象者は至急ログアウトしてください。５分後に強制デリートされます」
「あらら、素早い対応だな」団長がつぶやく。
Ｋが見ていると、通行人や車や家が次々と消えてゆく。
空を見ると、飛行機が数機こちらに向かってくるようだ。
「あわわ、あれは虚構船団だ」団長があわてる。
「逃げろ」
「逃げろと言われても・・・」
「どっかのマンホールにもぐりこめ」
Ｋは辺りを見回す。
そして、マンホールを見つけて持ち上げてその中へ入る。
「臭いよー。虚構でも臭いのか？」
「贅沢を言っちゃいかん」
